La Maialina Gertrude Toscana pairs well with pizza and pasta dishes

45% Sangiovese-30% Cabernet Sauvignon-25% Merlot

La Maialina celebrates the history, culture and cuisine of Tuscany, prized since antiquity for its rich soil and favorable climate. The name La Maialina (little pig) references the CintaSenese heirloom breed that originated in the Siena area during the 1300's and is the only Tuscan native pig t survive extinction. Gertrude is unique because she does not have the cinta (belt) marking but rather is all pink. Her name is symbolic of artistic character and strength, and within the wines of La Maialina she represents diversity and expression. Gertrude is a simple yet powerful Tuscan wine, ready to be enjoyed now or in the next few years.

Other products in the category Italy / Tuscany:

  • Petrolo Toscana Torrione IGT 2007 -- "Clear and precise, with beautiful aromas of plum, berries and chocolate. Full-bodied and refined, with a dense yet elegant palate of plum, chocolate and cherry. Long and caressing. Wonderfully polished. Very fine. Best after 2010. 3,750 cases made." -Wine Spectator "Petrolo's 2007 Torrione is one of the overachievers of the vintage. In a blind tasting it could easily be mistaken for a wine that costs twice as much (trust me on that!). This is simply a marvelous bottle of Tuscan red laced with perfumed red fruits, silky tannins and exceptional overall balance. The minerality and delineation here is nothing short of first class. I actually preferred the Torrione to the higher-end Boggina. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022." -Wine Advocate

  • Villa di Campobello Chianti Riserva D.O.C.G. -- Chianti Riserva possesses a brilliant, ruby color, violets and strawberries in the nose, and a dry, fruity, harmonious taste with a pleasant finish. It is vinified to be enjoyed young. "This wine is the result of a selection of the finest grapes in the vineyards of the Chianti area. The Riserva Campobello mirrors the tradition of the refined art of Tuscan winemaking. Aged in oak casks for 24 months, this rich red wine, full bodied and dry, offers a complex final touch of cherries and pepper. It is excellent with roasts, game and duck." -Winemaker's Notes Food Pairings: poultry, stews, pizza, burgers, and pasta with tomato and meat sauces. It is also great with chicken and veal parmigiana or marsala.
